- Client, Counseling and Education Program
Counselors provide support for women and children who have been impacted by domestic violence by assisting them with planning for safety, connecting them with community resources, and providing individual and group counseling. Services are provided in various locations throughout Jefferson County.
Individual and Family Counseling:
- Individual counseling for adults, adolescents, and children to help them heal from the effects of domestic violence. Sliding fee scale.
- Parent and child counseling, addresses behavioral and emotional issues and concerns for the non-violent parent and their children. Sliding fee scale.
Support Groups:
- Four-week educational group for adult survivors of domestic violence. Educational topics include the forms of abuse, power and control, the cycle of violence, why men batter, characteristics of a batterer, impact on children, barriers survivors face when leaving, safety planning, community resources, victim rights, protection orders, and the legal system. Group is held every Thursday evening. Childcare is provided. No fee.
- Women Empowered ("WE") group provides ongoing support for survivors of domestic violence. Participants work on stress management, issues of self-esteem, empowerment, safety planning, and community resources. The group meets every Thursday evening. Childcare is provided. Sliding fee scale.
- Time Out For Kids and Teens (TOFK): An eleven-session curriculum is provided for children and their non-violent parents in separate groups which meet simultaneously. The children's four, age-appropriate groups help them to overcome the effects of domestic violence; teach new ways to express feelings, and safety issues. The non-violent parent's groups (for both English and Spanish speaking parents) educates parents on the effects of domestic violence on children, includes ideas for effective parenting, offers group support, and safety planning. The eleven session series is followed by parent/counselor conferences. Groups are held on Monday evenings. Childcare is provided for children under age four. No fee is required.
Mountain Outreach:
- Individual counseling for women, effected by domestic violence, who live in the mountain area.
- Support group for women, affected by domestic violence, who live in the mountain area.

July 2008 - June 2009 Accomplishments:
Counseling and Education
- Served 615 women and children in domestic violence support groups (195), individual and family counseling (185) and Time Out for Kids (235).
- Provided counseling for 53 individuals in the mountain area.
- Responded to a total of 2,397 Information & Referral calls.
