NEED FOR A WILL OF LIVING TRUST
A will or living trust allows you to decide who will receive your assets when you pass away. Without one, the state in which you reside will make these decisions for you. Colorado intestacy law provides a standard formula to distribute property in the absence of a will or living trust. Rarely does this formula match a person’s true wishes.
CHARITABLE BEQUESTS
If you would like to, you can include a gift to Family Tree through your will or estate. A charitable bequest to Family Tree can be for a stated dollar amount or for a percentage of your estate.
Sample bequest language:
“I give to Family Tree, Inc., whose administrative offices are located at 3805 Marshall Street, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, a Colorado non-profit corporation, the sum of $_______ [or ______% of my estate; or the property described herein], for its general purposes.”
Please discuss this option with your attorney. And please let us know of your gift, so that we can thank you for your kind support.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION
Another option is to name Family Tree as a beneficiary of your IRA, company retirement plan or a life insurance policy. You can name Family Tree as a full or partial beneficiary, therefore allowing you to determine the appropriate gift.
Please contact your Plan Administrator or insurance company to request a Beneficiary Change Form. Follow the instructions to complete and return the form, and your gift will be in place. And please let us know of your gift, so that we can thank you for your kind support.
