Project IMPACT Getting Started


Guidelines and Benefits

1. Volunteer Group & Size - You can volunteer with your corporation, family, civic group, school, faith-based group or social club.  Groups can be as small as four up to 50 people.  The size of your group will help determine the best project.

2. Scheduling a Project, Date & Time - Pick a date and schedule a project by contacting Jaclyn Wilmot, Director of Volunteer Services, by phone at (303) 403-5892 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Please contact Jaclyn at least one month prior to your desired project date.  Volunteer hours are Monday - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

3. Project IMPACT Sites - With 8 physical program sites, Family Tree has the perfect place for you.  The following list of Project IMPACT sites can help narrow your search:

  • Arvada
    • Brookview Apartments
  • Englewood
    • House of Hope
  • Lakewood
    • Gemini
    • Karlis Family Center
    • Routt Street Apartments
  • Wheat Ridge
    • Administration
    • Marshall Street North
    • Treasure Trunk Thrift Store
4. Project IMPACT Opportunities - Projects range from simple to technical.  Your group can plan for weeks in advance or simply show up ready to work.  Examples of resources your group can provide include: paint, cleaning supplies, playground equipment, furniture, etc.  For an updated list of Project IMPACT opportunities, contact Jaclyn Wilmot.

5. What's In It For You?  The benefits are plentiful for your participation in Project IMPACT.
  • Refreshments, orientation and t-shirt - Family Tree staff will greet your group with food and beverages, provide a brief orientation about the agency and present the Project IMPACT lead with an original Family Tree t-shirt.
  • Camaraderie and fun - Challenge yourself, work hard, meet new people and have fun every step of the way!
  • Teambuilding - See your colleagues and friends in a different light.  Organize the project and work together to get it done.
  • Leadership Development - Gain valuable experience coordinating a project and leading your group to successful completion of the goal.
  • Exposure - Allow the community to see how your group makes a difference for Family Tree youth and families throughout metro Denver.  Your group will be eligible for the following exposure based upon the level of your project IMPACT.
    • Volunteer Spotlight Newsletter - Spotlighted in Family Tree's Volunteer Newsletter (circulation - 800+ volunteers). Level 1, 2, and 3
    • Media - Press release provided by Family Tree, describing your project.  Submitted to Great8 Newspapers and The Denver Post. Level 2 and 3
    • Family Tree Annual Report - Group name listed in the Annual Report based on giving level (circulation - 1,000 Family Tree constituents).  Level 2 and 3
    • Website - Group name, logo and direct link to your website (if applicable).  Description of project placed in the "Give Your Time" section of Family Tree's website.  Level 3
6. Value of Project IMPACT - Family Tree uses levels to determine the value of your service in order to provide equitable benefits you will receive in return.

7. Minimum Age Requirements - Volunteers must be at least eleven (11) years of age and must have sufficient adult supervision if under the age of sixteen (16).  Volunteers under eighteen (18) may not operate power tools or climb ladders/scaffolding.
