Volunteer Opportunities

Family Tree currently has the following volunteer opportunities for which we need compassionate, friendly and energetic volunteers.

  • Thrift Store Attendant:
Family Tree Treasure Trunk thrift store is open to the public, but our clients can shop there for free. Attendants accept donations, separate merchandise, price items, assist customers, and all other retail duties.
    Hours are 9 – 5 Mon – Fri, and 9 – 4 on Saturdays.

  • Day Care Volunteer:
If you’re good with kids and have a couple of hours a week to volunteer to assist with children while their parents are taking classes, we can use you. We use day care volunteers in several of our programs, and times and shifts vary with the programs.

  • Women’s Advocates:
Advocates work one on one with women in our shelters to assist them in determining their immediate and long-term needs, provide referrals and resources, help them fill out intake and other paperwork, and a number of other duties. We need daytime, evening, weekday and weekend shifts for this volunteer position, and can be flexible with your availability.

  • Crisis Line Operator:
This important position answers incoming crisis line calls, provides referrals and resources, de-escalates troubled callers, and provides intake information. We need daytime, evening, weekday and weekend shifts for this volunteer position, and can be flexible with your availability.

  • Supervised Visitation Monitors:
Volunteers sit in on court-ordered supervised visits between parents and their children, and monitor the visits carefully. They take notes on the visits, trying to be as invisible as possible, but intervene when the visit includes inappropriate interaction between the parent and child. Most shifts are weekend and evening, but there are a few weekday shifts as well.

  • Cook A Meal:
This is a great volunteer opportunity for small groups or family projects. Meals are prepared at volunteer’s homes (or at churches, schools, etc.) and then delivered to one of our shelters. We ask that meals be enough for 20 residents. Because of confidentiality and privacy issues, we do not have volunteers serve meals or eat with residents.

  • Tutors/Homework Helpers:
If you’re a brainiac, this is the volunteer position for you! Assist children in our shelters with their homework and/or provide one-onone tutoring for kids with special needs. This is usually a one-hour shift once or twice a week, but can be adjusted to your availability.

  • Clerical/Admin Assistant:
Provide clerical and administrative support to staff at one of our shelters, at the counseling center, or at our main administrative offices.
Shifts are usually 9AM – 1 PM and 1 – 5 PM, but can be adjusted to fit your availability.
