Community Leadership Intern

Participate in ongoing community efforts to end homelessness. Assist staff in Case Management with women at the program, milieu management of a shelter with census of 30, and programming for families.



  • Completion of volunteer orientation and approved background check.
  • Desire and ability to work with homeless families.
  • Ability to work within chaotic environment - patience a must.
  • Provide positive role modeling for families.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.



  • Meet with supervisor for supervision as needed; communicate needs and concerns as they arise.
  • Attend and actively participate in planning and organizing community meetings.
  • Participate in the group designing and implementing a 10 year plan to end homelessness.
  • Advocate for the homeless population to community members and stakeholders.
  • Represent Family Tree at community events and resource fairs.
  • Help supervisor with tasks – billing, data gathering, and supervising bachelor interns
  • Provide assistance to residents with Family Tree mission, values, goals and objectives in mind.
  • Demonstrate positive social skills to residents.
  • Adhere to shelter rules, policies and procedures. 
  • Be on time for scheduled shift or call supervisor.
  • General house duties - dealing with donors and resident needs.
  • Answer crisis and information phone calls. 
  • Follow Family Tree child abuse reporting procedures as a mandated reporter.
