DIVISION/PROGRAM: Gifts and Community Support

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Individual Giving is the lead team member for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors at Family Tree, including the management of giving societies and a major gifts program to secure financial support for the organization. The position drives the strategy for creating a comprehensive and integrated plan for acquiring and upgrading individual donors at every level. In addition to developing and managing a portfolio of major donors, the Director of Individual Giving works closely with the Chief Development Officer, CEO, and the Family Tree Board of Directors to build relationships with donors to secure financial support.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience and knowledge of effective processes for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship required. Experience and/or exposure to not-for-profit fund/revenue development activities strongly preferred. Undergraduate degree or comparable experience is preferred. Knowledge of Family Tree’s primary service areas is preferred. Ability to work independently and to communicate and coordinate with multiple customers/clients simultaneously, both internal and external, is required. Must have strong writing and public speaking skills. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong ethics and integrity. Must be computer proficient including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Familiarity with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is a plus.  Must be a team player with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; able to initiate tasks and projects; organize and set priorities; and coordinate multiple tasks with multiple priorities, many of which are time sensitive.   

Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license, automobile insurance, and acceptable motor vehicle record, or ability to travel to assignments in metro area.  Must clear all background checks which include national fingerprint-based criminal history records check, Colorado Sex Offender Registry check, and a National Sex Offender Registry check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Help individual donors accomplish their philanthropic goals through developing relationships with Family Tree, its mission and/or programs.
  2. Develop strategies to build and manage a broad portfolio of individual donors from various donor levels who have the capacity and motivation to give financial gifts to the organization.
  3. Conduct prospect research and management; donor identification, cultivation and stewardship and make direct (face-to-face and by telephone) solicitations for financial support.
  4. Develop and maintain working knowledge of all Family Tree, Inc. programs and services in order to engage donors in Family Tree’s work.
  5. Manage and steward giving societies, including Tree House Club (monthly giving club) and Evergreen Circle (planned giving society).
  6. Identify major donors and create cultivation and solicitation plans.
  7. Work closely with and support Chief Development Officer, CEO, and Board members in major donor solicitation.
  8. Work closely with the Chief Development Officer and Communications Director to create and produce fundraising appeals, such as direct mail appeals.
  9. Collaborate with the Gifts and Community Support Department and other Family Tree team members as needed and appropriate to set goals and align efforts, especially in the areas of supporting fundraising events and cultivating philanthropic relationships with volunteers.
  10. Present Family Tree programs and services in the community through public speaking engagements.
  11. Create and manage effective donor cultivation events throughout the year.
  12. Ensure individual donor revenue goals are met on an annual basis.
  13. Adhere to all Family Tree, Inc. established policies and procedures.
  14. Represent Family Tree, Inc. in a professional manner at all times.
  15. Attend meetings as required and requested.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position also requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, calculator, telephone, photocopier and other similar office equipment. Physical demands associated with the essential functions include sitting, reaching, handling, talking, hearing (ordinary conversation), and seeing (far and near acuity, depth perception, field of vision and accommodation).  This position may require repetitive action such as typing at a computer for a significant amount of time. A valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record and transportation sufficient to efficiently attend community meetings, travel to various office or work locations and to run errands, is required.

SCHEDULE: Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm, but flexible hours required, including some evenings and weekends.
