Supervised Visitation Monitor Intern

Key Responsibilities
•    Monitor supervised visits at Karlis Family Center.
•    Observe parents and children during their court-ordered visits and document the interactions.  The documentation may be provided to courts, case workers, clients and lawyers for use in determining parenting time.
•    Intervene in visits when visitation rules are not followed.
•    Provide safe exhanges for parents at the Karlis Family Center.
•    Complete initial training with parenting time program staff.
•    Complete volunteer checklist and training hours.
•    Arrive on time during scheduled shifts.
•    Follow procedures for transition and supervision of children.

Initial Impact
•    Kids will be given an opportunity to have healthy, safe visitations with their parents.

Sustained Outcome
•    Supervised Visitation Intern will demonstrate the value of effective volunteer engagement.
•    This role will help Karlis Family Center staff  fulfill strategic priorities.

Training & Support
•    Interns complete the following trainings in person or virtually:
                - Intern Orientation
                - Mandatory Reporter Training
                - Domestic Violence Training
                - Supervised Visitation Intern will be able to participate in ongoing training.

Commitment
The Supervised Visitation Intern is expected to be available for four to six months. The weekly commitment is ten hours. Evening and weekend shifts are needed.

Qualifications
•    Completion of volunteer/intern orientation and background check.
•    Sufficient knowledge of conditions that require supervised visitations:  domestic violence, child abuse, child neglect, chemical dependency and/or mental illness.
•    Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
•    Must possess the ability to see and hear all interactions during supervised visits.
•    Must be dependable.
•    Must have good judgment, maturity, common sense, and a high degree of responsibility.
•    The intern will act in a non-discriminatory manner toward all clients, regardless of age, sex, race, national origin, religion, physical handicap, political affiliations, social or economic status, affliction preference or sexual orientation.
